The community had submitted a project as part of the Wave Four application process. The project involves a regional approach and will be working in collaboration with the Jane Mattinas Health Center serving the Constance Lake First Nation and the Missinaibi Clinic serving the communities of Mattice-Val Côté.
The completed business and operational plan was submitted to the Ministry early June 2010 and implementation of the new family health team started in the spring 2011. With our group of local physicians, existing physician's staff and the additional funded interdisciplinary health professionals and administrative positions under the family health team, a total of close to 25 people will be collaborating as a team to provide better primary health care to the local and regional population.
A Family Health Team is an approach to primary health care that brings together different health care providers to co-ordinate the highest possible quality of care for the patient. Designed to give doctors support from other complementary professionals, most Family Health Teams will consist of doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, mental health workers, dietician and other health care professionals who work collaboratively, each utilizing their experience and skills. The Nord-Aski family health team also introduce the utilisation of an EMR (electronic medical record) system.
The Nord-Aski Family Health Team will provide a modern collaborative work environment for the young health professionals who will be joining the team.
