Notre-Dame Hospital has been selected as one of only 6 sites across Ontario to participate in the Colon Cancer Prevention pilot project. The project at Notre-Dame hospital will focus specifically on increasing screening using flexible sigmoidoscopy testing. This test uses a soft, flexible lighted tube inserted into the rectum to examine the lower third of the colon, where most cancers develop. It takes approximately 20 minutes to perform, no sedation is required. Two registered nurses from the hospital, Pascalle Jacques and Julie Hachez- Carrière, completed special training to perform the procedure. They will work under the supervision of Dr Bill Fragiskos. Thanks to our great team, we can offer better and enhances services to the community of Hearst and the surrounding areas. |
